Perfect Apple Crisp
Author: Melissa
  • 7 large apples (I used a mix of Granny Smith and Cameo)
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • ¼ cup water
  • ¼ cup white sugar
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 ½ Tbsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 stick cold unsalted butter
  • ½ cup quick cooking oats
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Slice apples into 2 inch pieces (I like to leave the skin on)
  3. In a large bowl, mix the apples with lemon juice and ½ tsp. cinnamon; set aside.
  4. In a food processor, pulse the sugars, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, flour, and oats with the cold butter; I find it’s easier to slice the butter into 6-7 tabs before adding it so that everything combines nicely. The mixture should resemble pea-sized crumbs.
  5. Add apples to a greased 9 x 13 baking dish and cover with the crumb mixture.
  6. Bake at 350 degrees covered with foil for 30 minutes; then remove foil and bake another 30-40 minutes.
  7. Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or some whipped cream – although it’s also delicious on its own!
  8. Enjoy!
