- 7 large apples (I used a mix of Granny Smith and Cameo)
- Juice of 1 lemon
- ¼ cup water
- ¼ cup white sugar
- ¾ cup brown sugar
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 ½ Tbsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp nutmeg
- 1 cup flour
- 1 stick cold unsalted butter
- ½ cup quick cooking oats
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Slice apples into 2 inch pieces (I like to leave the skin on)
- In a large bowl, mix the apples with lemon juice and ½ tsp. cinnamon; set aside.
- In a food processor, pulse the sugars, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, flour, and oats with the cold butter; I find it’s easier to slice the butter into 6-7 tabs before adding it so that everything combines nicely. The mixture should resemble pea-sized crumbs.
- Add apples to a greased 9 x 13 baking dish and cover with the crumb mixture.
- Bake at 350 degrees covered with foil for 30 minutes; then remove foil and bake another 30-40 minutes.
- Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or some whipped cream – although it’s also delicious on its own!
- Enjoy!
